Travel OT activities guaranteed to keep your little ones engaged, learning, having fun, and building skills along the way!
If you’re traveling, we’ve shared some fantastic activities to keep your child having fun and building skills. And even if you’re not going on vacation, these are great to have in your back pocket! We all find ourselves in situations where our kiddos are in the car or waiting at another sibling’s activity for a while. This is a great time to get some OT activities in!
Melissa and Doug Take Along Magnetic Jig Saw Puzzles Travel Toy: This is a great way to work on both visual and fine motor skills with no missing puzzle pieces!
Sticker activities are great for fine motor development and encourage your child to use two hands in a coordinated way. You can make your own with any stickers and paper, but a couple that I really like that are available for purchase are: Melissa and Doug Seek and Find Sticker Pad and Skillmatics Art Activity Dot It which offers many different themes and has something for everyone
Crayola Color Wonder Mess Free Coloring Books are a fabulous way to address both fine motor and visual motor skills without the mess and kids love them.
Any activity books that include dot-to-dots or mazes are an excellent way to build skills
Travel-sized Etch-A-Sketch or Mini Magnadoodle are classic activities and wonderful for building fine motor and visual motor skills along with bilateral coordination skills (using two hands together)
Apps: If screen time is allowed, two apps I really like for skill building are Dexteria Jr which is a fine motor skills builder for pre-school aged children, and Letter School which provides awesome sound effects and visuals while learning to make those ABCs
Kids Travel Trays: I do not own one myself but would have loved this for long car rides when my daughter was young. Kids Travel Trays look as if they have it all and will hopefully help keep things organized and accessible. I saw a variety of options on Amazon. Check them out!
