Something’s Brewing…
I am so excited and I just can’t hide it- thanks Pointer Sisters! I am starting something very exciting that I am anxious to share. Breathe. Let’s start at the beginning.
I have been a Pediatric Occupational Therapist since 1999. It is hard to believe that I have been working in this career for over 20 years, but I got lucky to discover what I love and have never wanted to stop. I have worked in school based practice, early intervention, sensory based clinics, on pre-school assessment teams, private practice, and currently I am providing home based therapy. While I can honestly say that I have enjoyed each and every one of those settings, I am now embarking on something new that has got me really fired up and inspired!
The idea struck me as I was continually presented with the same problem over and over again… scheduling. There are only so many hours in the day and so many days of the week. Parents are trying to coordinate and schedule their kids' lives to fit with school, family, friends, extracurricular activities and various therapies. I am always trying to figure out how I can be in three different homes at 3:30 on a Monday! Try as I might, it’s always a losing battle for both parties involved. I need my students to have more access and support from me, but I always found myself at a loss for how to provide additional support.
After much brainstorming, conversing with the families I work with, and collaborating with colleagues, I came up with a new and fresh idea. An idea that will allow me to solve more problems for more kiddos while also relieving parents of their continual scheduling concerns.
I am starting a subscription based website and I am over the moon thrilled about my new potential to serve!
My goal is to present occupational therapy content, via videos, in a thoughtful, modern, and accessible manner. The site will provide information, education, play, and fun. It will allow me to solve more problems for students and their families which is always of utmost importance when providing therapy services. The videos address all areas covered by Pediatric OT’s, for kids of all ages and skill levels. In addition, there will also be opportunities for private consultation with me as well as other “a la carte” services for additional support. This subscription will be a perfect resource to use when you simply can’t fit in that second session, the family is traveling, your child needs daily practice and repetition to master skills. I strive to provide quality services to anybody regardless of socioeconomic status or financial standing. My intention is for my new site to be a great tool to use as a “home program” for kids who may already be receiving occupational therapy as well as for those who are not. It’s a perfect resource for parents to use with their children when they know that they need a little practice building and mastering skills and yearn for them to be engaged in something both fun and educational.
Working with children as an occupational therapist has always brought me a tremendous amount of joy and satisfaction. I can think of few things that could possibly be as rewarding. My deepest hope is that this allows more children to engage with me, grow, develop, and learn to become as independent and successful as possible. Get excited and stay tuned!
